Michelle: Surprising Results

I came to the PRC needing a pregnancy test. Although I had not missed a period, I was not feeling well.

My boyfriend had said he would be very upset if I were pregnant. When I saw that the test was positive, I was shocked. There was so much going on in my life, how would I fit in a baby?

My mother had passed away six months ago, the relationship with my boyfriend was unstable and I was trying to go to school. How could I have this baby without my mom or the babyÕs father supporting me? Confused, yes at every turn. The PRC counselor shared my choices, all of them difficult. Which one could I live with?

My counselor became a source of encouragement and comfort as in the next few weeks my boyfriend became intense in the pressure for me to abort. For two more months I came into the PRC. My counselor gave me a Bible and although I was a Christian, I had not been living the life I should. I decided to go to a church and become involved in a church family. Some things began to change, but my boyfriend still wanted me to terminate the pregnancy.

As I began to trust, I saw changes in my circumstances and how I looked at them. With support from the church, a job and a feeling of independence, and four months after going to the PRC, I made the firm decision that I would carry and parent.

The babyÕs father was still insisting that the pregnancy was destroying our lives, that he would never love the baby I was carrying. He refused to be any support when I went to the doctor or when the baby would be delivered. The situation at home became even worse. Each time I came to the center we would pray that his heart and attitude would change.

With a continued unraveling relationship, I decided to move out of state to be with relatives. He would not have this arrangement either, so one more choice, to move back. I continued to pray and receive counsel at the PRC until I delivered a beautiful baby boy.

A couple of weeks after the delivery, the babyÕs father, his mother, and I went into the center to show off baby, the results surprising all who were there. The babyÕs father, who had fought so hard not to have this baby, was holding him in his arms, with love and pride.
